Dietitian Nutrition Tips for National Nutrition Month 2022®

In this blog post, we go over Dietitian nutrition tips for National Nutrition Month 2022®. When you think of March, you may think of spring, St. Patrick’s Day, or temperamental midwestern weather, but did you know March is National Nutrition Month®? Each year, nutrition professionals use this month to raise awareness of the importance of nutrition for health. This year, the theme is “celebrate a world of flavors,” encouraging people to embrace the diversity of different cuisines and dishes.

Every year, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics also releases several key messaging points to help the public fully embrace National Nutrition Month®. Here’s how you can incorporate these points into your own household!

1) Eat a Variety of Nutritious Foods

It’s no secret that we need to eat from different food groups to get all the nutrients we need for a healthy body. The USDA dietary guidelines (Home | Dietary Guidelines for Americans) recommend building meals and snacks using foods from the following food groups: grains, proteins, fruits, vegetables, and dairy. If you want to know more about the nutrition in your food, reading the nutrition facts label can help you to be more aware.

2) See a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN)

At Feed to Succeed, we employ a team of registered dietitians with expertise in different aspects of pediatric nutrition. Your child’s doctor can give you a referral to work with us! Call or email us to get an appointment scheduled today.

3) Plan your meals and snacks

Meal and snack prepping follow a basic structure. First, we choose foods and food groups filled with different nutrients. Second, we use those foods and food groups to choose the recipes we want to try for the week. Third, we use the recipes we chose to create a grocery list. Planning your meals can be a great way to try a new fruit or vegetable or a new food from a different culture. Check out our earlier blog on meal prepping for some tips!

4) Create tasty foods at home

You’ve created your grocery list and bought all of your groceries-now it’s time to create delicious meals in the kitchen! Try using a new spice or cooking technique from another culture. Another way to embrace the diversity of food is to enjoy a meal with another family of a different background than yours. We can learn a lot from how others prepare food!
