February is American Heart Health. Here are some quick and helpful heart-healthy nutrition tips for the heart.
Eat the Rainbow!
You may have heard this one before, but it’s true! Eating the rainbow ensures that you are receiving a variety of vitamins and nutrients that support heart and overall health.
Be Physically Active Daily.
Children need at least sixty minutes of physical activity daily. Having kids play a sport or join a team is one great way to be physically active. Weather permitting, other examples would be going sledding, building a snowman outside, skipping rope, going on a bike ride or walk, or even swimming!
Add Daily Fiber.
Fiber is found in fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, legumes, and even whole grains. Increasing fiber intake is great for supporting heart health.
Lower Overall Stress.
Exercising is a great way to lower overall stress. Getting adequate sleep as well as doing stress-relieving activities like coloring, doing a puzzle, or taking a walk can be helpful for stress management.1
