Janna Nixon, MS, RDN, LDN

Janna Nixon has always enjoyed baking, cooking, and learning about food, but her path to a career in nutrition was unconventional. She initially completed a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Illinois Wesleyan University and taught high school English for seven years. While completing her bachelor’s degree, Janna met with a registered dietitian who introduced her to the principles of Intuitive Eating. Years later, for help with feeding her own kids, Janna discovered Ellyn Satter’s Division of Responsibility in Feeding. Nutrition as a science was intriguing to her, and she soon made the decision to switch careers and become a registered dietitian.

While completing an undergraduate certificate in nutrition and dietetics at Dominican University, Janna fell in love with the science of nutrition and its connection to the body, proper development, and different disease states. She went on to earn her master’s degree in nutrition and wellness as well as a graduate certificate in nutrition and dietetics at Andrews University.

Through her early volunteer work, training in education, and career as a teacher, serving children of all ages and their families has always been Janna’s passion. She knew she wanted to continue that work as a pediatric dietitian. To help achieve that goal, she completed her dietetic internship at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, IL, training in both outpatient and inpatient pediatric nutrition across a variety of specialties. Following the completion of her internship and master’s degree, Janna became a registered dietitian licensed in the state of Illinois in June 2025.

Janna lives with her husband, two sons, and a yellow lab named Luna in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. In her free time, she enjoys reading, spending time outside, walking her dog, baking, and cooking.
